From the Christopher Murphy estate. Murphy was a Georgia artist, born in Savannah in the very early part of the 20th century. He was known for his depictions of Savannah daily life and architecture, as well as for his portraiture. This particular study features a variety of paint colors and a double portrait of sorts. It has a kind of Dali surrealism to it. 

Murphy died on October 20, 1973, and is buried at Hillcrest Cemetery in Savannah. The collection of the Morris Museum of Art in Augusta includes 100 pieces of his work and pieces can also be seen in the Telfair Museum of Art.
