Plaster and Gilt French Bookends
A pair of vintage plaster bookends, painted gold gild and featuring curved fronts with scenes of 19th century France after prints by Carle Vernet (French, 1758-1836). Carle Vernet was a French painter of battle scenes for Napoleon I and of sporting subjects, notably horses, for King Louis XVIII. The bookends feature metal tongues and are covered with green felt on the backs. Labeled “Borghese” on the underside.
